Woodpeckers

The brief was to design a contemporary house in this exceptional site within delightful larch woodland. The open plan living space surrounds a sheltered south-facing courtyard accessible by sliding open one fully glazed wall.

The two-storey north wing contains a double height entrance hall with gallery, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, cloakroom and study.

The low carbon construction uses 'breathing' timber frame walls with recycled cellulose insulation and wood wool slabs finished with lime render or untreated larch cladding.

The mono-pitch roofs are finished with sheet metal and the rainwater goods are in grey galvanized steel.

This was a self-build project and the owner, being a retired builder, ensured that a very high standard of finish was achieved throughout.
