Drumbeg: bunkhouse from south

This four-bedroom house was built in 1997, within a clearing in an area of semi-native woodland, on a coastal site in west Sutherland.

Constructed in Scottish timber, preserved with low toxic boron, the first floor living room has a bay window with a view of the sea, a high ceiling with exposed Douglas Fir trusses and a floor of recycled pitch pine boards.

In 2003 a bunkhouse was built on a sloping site behind the garage. Also constructed in Scottish timber with larch cladding it has a turf and heather roof. This is a well-insulated and cosy structure, which is easily heated by the wood burning stove.

Howard Liddell was involved at the start of this project.
